On March 6th I am going to ride the same route that Dave “Cools” Cooley rode on his last ride. I think it would be great to get a big group to head out west in the big chainring like we did on March 21, 2009. There were about 6 of us that rode with Cools that day. I hope the same crew shows up.
This is not a beginner ride. Cools rode at a “good” pace, to say the least, so anyone with some road fitness should be able to keep up just fine. Mountain bikes/singlespeeds are not recommended. This is not a race since Cools did not like racing in a group. However the pace will be 17 to 19 mph most of the way out with a 20+ mph return on Elizabeth Lake Road. I give these speeds based on my past experience riding with Cools. With favorable wind conditions that pace could be higher. See you there!
Why: To honor the memory of our friend and riding buddy Dave “Cools” Cooley who lost his life much too soon on March 25, 2009.
Where: Gil’s Bike Shop parking lot
When: March 6th, 2010 – 8:00AM
Route: West on J and then a few zigzags to Munz Ranch Road then head back on Elizabeth Lake Road turning north on Godde Hill Road. We’ll finish up at Starbuck’s on K and 20th St. West for coffee and tall tales.
